Inexpensive Dating : Try it When Times are Tough by Honey B. Wackx
Wouldn't it be nice if you're the one always springing for paying for the date expenses if you could do the little things that are nice but on the inexpensive side? After all, going to the more expensive places is not what most people do if they live their lives on a budget and are not in the upper class of society.
Sometimes our focus is on money too much and if you can make your date understand that you would prefer to do some of the nice things that don't necessarily require shelling out a lot of money you both could still enjoy yourselves and have a worthwhile time together. This has to be done in a tactful way however as you don't want to be seen as a cheapskate. An alternate of doing this, on a smaller scale, is by splitting the cost of the outing by both of you.
You don't need a lot of money to have an enjoyable time with a date. Here are a few ideas to implement that have a cozy and special quality for anyone on a budget:
1) A cup of tea, coffee or chai at the local Starbucks, Barnes and Nobles or Borders bookstore is a nice place to go. On weekend nights, some of the bookstores even have free live entertainment.
2) Go out for breakfast. This does not have to cost a lot and breakfast is the favorite meal for many people. You can make it special by each bringing a couple of items that are important to you. I did this when I was younger and my friend brought a wonderful geode and photograph.
3) Pack a small picnic basket and put in some crackers, cheese and fresh fruit. You can go to a nice park or duck pond and sit watching people while sitting on a blanket. This is something that is enjoyable and very relaxing.
4) Go to a zoo, museum or botanical garden that is in your area. To save a little money bring some sandwiches and snacks as many public places inflate the cost of food due to fact that they attract tourists.
5) College campuses have poetry readings, concerts and plays that are often free or very low cost.
6) Head out for an ice cream break. This can be fun and springing a little for sprinkles and m and m toppings will bring back childhood memories.
7) Drive to a music store or go to the CD section of a bookstore where you can put on headphones and test out various tunes. Check out the musicals, current hits and tunes you haven't heard in a while. Sharing your favorite tunes is a way to grow closer. 8) Jump in the car and take a drive. Explore a nearby town, drive to a lake or check out the large homes or estates.
9) If there is a Planetarium in the city you're in or a close city, visit it one night when they offer shows or during the day if they offer shows or tours there. Also there may be special types of places you can visit like an art museum or other cultural spots.
10) Grab a book of poems, inspirational quotes and bring them to a nice outdoors setting. If it's cold then stay in the car with the heater on for a while. Just not too long if the engine is running due to the potential of carbon monoxide seeping in from the car exhaust. If the weather is comfortable you can sit outside and take turns reading to each other.
11) Throw a Frisbee in the park. If you both enjoy playing with the Frisbee that can be a nice treat. A game of catch can also be fun as well as watching the local teams play. They often only have a few parents and would appreciate the support!
Sometimes having a limited budget actually can be an advantage because it makes you think more creatively. It also doesn't emphasize that you must spend a lot to have fun or enjoy one another.
If your date goes well and things don't seem out of place with your low budget outing you could suggest that every so often you two enjoy such a venture so it does not seem like that's all you can afford or you're trying purposely to cut back on the spending just because of the person you're with. The last thing you want to do is give the impression it's the person you're with and not the affordability or experience that you're hoping to have is the reason for the low cost outings you're promoting.
